A Summer of Markets, Flowers, and Friendship
12 Oct
This summer has been a whirlwind for Ey Up Flowers — three markets, countless conversations, and plenty of good old British rain! But despite the weather, it’s been a truly wonderful few months sharing locally grown flowers with the Sheffield community.
In love with Zinnia and Dahlias even more
Sharrow Market – A Rainy but Joyful Start
My first stop was Sharrow Market, and true to form, it was a wet one. What else would you expect from a British summer?
But the drizzle didn’t dampen spirits — or the interest in local, seasonal flowers. Shoppers came prepared with umbrellas and smiles, and I loved chatting to everyone about the joy of homegrown blooms. I’m already looking forward to heading back for the Christmas Market on 30 November 2025.
Nether Edge Market – More Rain, More Lovely People
Next came Nether Edge Market, and yes, you guessed it… another rainy day! But once again, the Sheffield spirit shone through. I met so many wonderful locals who shared stories, swapped flower tips, and reminded me why I love doing what I do. Rain or shine, there’s nothing quite like connecting with people who appreciate the beauty of locally grown flowers.
Pumpkin & Presents – My Best Market Yet
My final market of the season was @pumpkin&presents, and what a weekend it was! With Storm Amy whirling outside, being indoors felt like an absolute gift. Sunday was a truly inspiring day — full of creativity, laughter, and connection. I met so many amazing female business owners, each with their own stories and passions, and left feeling deeply inspired.
Even though I had to bring in some gorgeous dahlias from Andy at @dahliabeach, they blended beautifully with the flowers I’d grown myself. The combination made for some of my favourite arrangements yet. It was a busy, slightly chaotic weekend — but now that I’ve had time to catch my breath, I can see what a great success it really was.
For My Wonderful Daughter, Freya
Freya,
you stood with me in the rain at Sharrow,
both of us laughing, soaked and happy,
until we found our favourite little spot — Porter Coffee.
I’ll never forget that moment —
the warmth of the cups in our hands,
the comfort of being with you.
You chauffeured me (and the flowers!)
through the winding Cotswolds lanes,
patient and smiling,
turning a simple journey into something special.
Thank you, my love,
for your kindness, your company,
and all the small, beautiful things
you make feel extraordinary.
Looking Ahead
As autumn settles in and I start planning for winter markets, I’m feeling so grateful — for every conversation, every customer, and every flower that’s brought a little colour to a rainy day. Thank you to everyone who came by to say hello and support local growers this summer.
Here’s to many more markets, more blooms, and (hopefully) a little less rain!
